Vamos a Pescar (Let's Go Fishing) FREE fishing event will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012. Fishing will begin at 6 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. Registration is free, which includes lunch for registered participants, a chance to win prizes, gift bags for the first 500 families, and lots of fun. All children up to 17 years-old must be accompanied by an adult. No fishing license will be needed during that designated time and in the designated area. Participants are encouraged to bring fishing gear and necessary items to protect themselves from the elements, and enjoying a day out for fishing. The lake west of University prior to the event, at Buddy Holly Lake on the West side of Cesar E. Chavez Drive, will be stocked with hungry catfish (Depending on heat conditions). Families must register on-line or by calling (806)792-1212 before August 15, 2012. Later registration will take place the morning of the event starting at 6:00 AM. Last year in 2011, over 3,200 individuals consisting of families, especially fathers and children, participated in the event, hosted by Los Hermanos, and co-sponsored by Texas Parks & Wildlife, the Texas Game Warden's Association, Lubbock's Fishing's Future, and various sponsors and media.
